Wonder what burr was under my saddle last night?

I was quite the crankypants when I wrote that last post, apparently. Time to count some blessings, I think. Ten should be enough to make up for my little rant.

First, as of the last head count, all the people I love are safe and relatively healthy. I'm having trouble getting around today, but I'm well enough to be the emergency babysitter for my god-son, Naked Lad. He's either got a cold or his asthma has kicked in, he coughed all last night. Not terribly bad, just enough that neither he nor his mom, my bf Moose Maiden, got any sleep. MM called this morning and asked if I could pitch hit for her as she couldn't miss any more work so I came running--er, hobbling. So blessing number two is that I could be useful today, and that MM can take it for granted that I've got her back.

Three, the sun is shining and it's a lovely day. Not something to take lightly in Kansas in May. Four, it stayed just dry enough yesterday so that firstborn could get the grass mowed, finally. I considered it a Mother's Day present. I know he was tired when he got home from work, but he cowboyed up and got it done. He's a good boy at heart.

My other present was going to see Iron Man with Himself and ninjakitty! What an awesome, fun, exciting movie! Blessing five would be that Robert Downey Jr was clean and sober so he could be Tony Stark because he was a joy to watch. There aren't many better ways to spend a few hours than watching a favorite actor doing a fabulously good job in a perfectly executed movie. There weren't even any dippy trailers, except that one for Mike Myers' new movie which I could overlook because Mike Myers is like that goofy kid in fourth grade that never shut up but he made everyone laugh so everyone sort of liked him. The trailers for the Hulk and the Spirit looked terrific, I'm so glad that the Hulk's getting another chance. That Ang Lee stinkbomb was embarrassing, really.

Let's see, blessing six...ah, I got the Carnival gown finished in time to enter it in the May Pattern Challenge on the Fletcher Pattern Co website. I'm up there with the likes of Gerry Broerman! Just being on the same page with her is a thrill. They haven't posted the winners yet, but realistically the best I'm hoping for is second place.

Seven has to be that it's Monday and Dancing with the Stars is on tonight. We'll be watching it with MM and her family since Himself has to come pick me up anyway, so that could count as seven and eight both. We'll get a great supper, I'll get to dissect tonight's performances with MM. DWTS slips under my anti-reality-show radar because the people are already celebrities of some sort or another to begin with, and because I kind of respect them for stepping out of their comfort zones and being willing to be seen working hard for a goal and risking failure.

So we come to nine. Should I go with one of the big ones, like Himself or being born in America? No, my grousing was pretty specific, so I'll dig for something less obvious. The three commissions I have for finishing, I think. My rep is growing, more people are willing to trust me to finish their needlework. Maybe I could make a real contribution to our income with this, eventually.

Just one left, it should be a good one. Something I hadn't recognized before. I'm going to say the MANU job opening. It's the first job I've been excited about since I left OMC. I find myself actually anticipating an interview, planning what I'll wear, rehearsing answers to possible questions. I don't know if I'll even be called to interview, but at least I'm looking forward to the opportunity instead of dreading that I'll have to leave the house.

So that's my ten blessings for today, or at least the ones I'm pulling out for inspection.
